This takes me back to my very early childhood with my Great Grandmother making homemade chocolate Rugelach. Very simple (not so healthy) but so good...especially straight out of the oven!

This recipe is dedicated to the BEST Rugelach maker in the world....Carl Guinn :)

20 servings Steps 7

ingredients

For the dough:

7 oz softened butter

8 oz softened cream cheese

1 tsp vanilla

¼ cup sugar

2 cups flour

For the filling:

½ cup sugar

1 tbl cinnamon

1 tbl cacao powder

½ cup ground chocolate chips

¼ cup melted butter

For the topping

1 egg beaten

¼ cup sugar

directions

1. Cream the butter and cream cheese, then add the vanilla and sugar and mix, then add the flour and mix until it forms a dough. Refrigerate for 2 hours

2. To make the filling combine the sugar, cinnamon, cacao and ground chocolate chips

3. Take the dough out, cut it into 4 equal portions, roll each out into a thin circle using a lot of flour to keep it from sticking.

4. Preheat the oven to 350F

5. Put a dollop of the melted butter in the middle of the circle and spread it like pizza sauce over the dough, cover the butter with a layer of the chocolate mix.

6. Cut each disk into 16 “pizza slices” and roll each one like a croissant from the large side to the point.

7. Arrange each “croissant” on a parchment lined cookie sheet. Brush with the egg wash and bake for 20 minutes
